Bunaco is a Tsugaru craft product that unites the natural beauty and strength of wood with a style inspired by the Tsugaru region. Founded in 1956, Bunaco was created from the word buna (beech tree) and ko, a phrase in the Tsugaru dialect that is added to the end of nouns to emphasize famliarity. Compared to hiba (Japanese cypress), beech wood is a hardwood abundant in Aomori with just the right amount of viscosity. The products rarely crack or bend and can be safely used abroad under different climates. Using modern technology, the company has developed unique techniques, and their products’ exclusive shapes and designs have received attention around the world.
